(Raleigh, N.C., Dec. 17, 2019)—Five months after a fire damaged the merchandise and closed its doors, the newly renovated Missions Thrift Store will open again on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020.
Located at 2721 E. Millbrook Road, North Raleigh, in the warehouse section of Crossroads Fellowship Millbrook Campus, the store will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and feature special discounts and celebrations.
As part of the grand reopening, a ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. for the new Boutique & Unique section of the store featuring a 25-by-40-foot area with higher-end items, brand names and rare finds. The ribbon cutting will be followed by light refreshments.
The thrift store helps fund local and global missions of Crossroads Fellowship with campuses in North Raleigh and Wake Forest.
A fire that started on the night of August 2, 2019, among Christmas lights being stored in the church’s warehouse, didn’t destroy the building but caused serious smoke and water damage from the fire sprinklers that were activated. No one was in the building when the fire started.
Several hundred thousand dollars’ worth of thrift store merchandise wasn’t salvageable, and the store closed for business while the warehouse was repaired and outfitted with new lighting, paint and carpet.
“Our customers are anxiously awaiting the reopening. We’ve been getting weekly inquiries asking when we’ll be open again,” said Mark Dalton, Missions manager at Crossroads Fellowship. “Not only does our store attract thrifters who love a deal, but also shoppers who cannot afford higher priced clothing and other items.”
Shoppers making purchases during the grand reopening will get to spin the Wheel of Thrift as they check out for deals like 10 percent off their entire purchase or $5 off purchases of $20 or more during a future visit.
Stephanie Moore is a long-time customer of Missions Thrift Store shopping there since it opened in 2011 and often visiting twice a week. She likes that she can find items other stores don't offer such as kitchen gadgets, linens, seasonal items, books and toys. "I've shopped thrift stores all over the country from when I was a child. Missions Thrift is one of my all-time favorites, not only because of what it offers but because of what it stands for," said Moore, who lives in Northeast Raleigh.
Thrift Store Manager Vicki Combs said that while the fire closed the store, it enabled many new necessary updates and changes to be completed.
“It was a time to renew and refresh our store and it won’t look the same to our regular shoppers. In addition to a new color scheme and design elements, it will have a new layout, display cases, cash registers and signage,” Combs added.
The Missions Thrift Store provides new and gently used goods and clothing at affordable prices with proceeds going to local and global missions by Crossroads Fellowship. Find volunteer and donation information at www.missionsthriftnc.com.
About The Missions Thrift Store
The Missions Thrift Store relies on three types of people to be successful—volunteers, shoppers and donors. It is a friendly place to shop offering quality clothing, furniture, and other new and gently used items at affordable prices. Prior to opening its current location in the warehouse section of Crossroads Fellowship Millbrook Campus in 2011, the church hosted huge yard sales to raise funds for its local and global mission outreach. All proceeds from the store support local and global causes.
Physical Location: The store is located at 2721 E. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh, N.C., 27604. After entering the Crossroads Fellowship Millbrook campus from Millbrook Road, turn right and follow the signs through the parking lot to the back of the complex where the store’s entrance is located.
